My work currently falls under the heading of “Narratives of Space.” I am exploring in my art the formation of the Three Peaks area of Yorkshire. I live close to this area. My concern is to examine how this landscape came into existence over vast periods of geological time. Through the development of paintings and maquettes, I explore the sensation of how the landscape may have been formed and transformed by the forces of nature. Light, glaciers, tectonics, seas, wind and gravity all played a part in this. I also play with the idea that landscapes are fashioned in geometric underground workshops and then transported to the surface as fully formed linear rocks that will be subjected to the process of erosion. I am inspired to investigate in my art the contrast between the time taken to create our landscapes with the transient nature of modem living.
